— How We Work
Creation Process
Primer and gesso
Catalog or custom order. We discuss size, technique, wood, and preferences.
Gilding
The halos and backgrounds are adorned with genuine 24-karat gold leaf. The artisan polishes it by hand to a mirror-like shine, symbolizing the divine light.
Prayer
The icon is painted with constant inner prayer using the ancient technique of egg tempera. The pigments are made from natural minerals ground into a fine powder, which is why they glow from within and retain their luster for centuries.
Protection and Consecration
The finished painting is coated with natural linseed oil or varnish to provide reliable protection against the elements and moisture. After being consecrated in a church, the icon becomes a true sacred object for your home.
