Alevtina Moshenkova: The Path to Spiritual Art
Alevtina Ivanovna Moshenkova is an outstanding master of iconography, whose life path serves as an inspiring example of dedication to creativity and a relentless spiritual search.
Origins and the Formation of Talent
Alevtina Ivanovna's creative journey originates in her early childhood when a deep and genuine love for painting awoke within her. Her first steps in education and professional activity were connected to the technical field and work in a scientific research institute; however, her artistic calling always remained paramount. Even in her youth, she actively developed her gift in painting studios, later receiving fundamental training in the drawing and painting department, laying a solid foundation for her future mastery.
Acquiring a Professional Signature in Latvia
In 1964, her strive for artistic perfection brought her to Latvia. Here, she enrolled in the Design Department of the Art Academy of Latvia, from which she successfully graduated in 1972. This was followed by a period of fruitful work in the field of applied arts and design: Alevtina Ivanovna worked in a design bureau and at the decorative and applied arts combine "Māksla," where she honed her sense of form and composition.
Immersion into the World of Iconography
The turning point in her destiny was her ultimate transition to sacred art. Since 1987, the master's creative focus has been entirely centered on icon painting. Through her efforts, the Riga Holy Trinity Church in Pārdaugava and the Church of the Dormition of the Most Holy Mother of God in Jelgava were painted. Creating icons for churches and home altars, Alevtina Ivanovna continued to improve, mastering the most delicate canons of "personal painting" (the traditional painting of faces and hands in icons) in the traditions of ancient monastic schools.
Teaching and Original Methodology
A significant part of the master's life was devoted to pedagogy. Having received a blessing for mentorship, she began teaching icon painting to children, and later developed a unique original program, "Days of Creation." This methodology formed the basis of her long-term work at the Latvian Christian Academy, where Alevtina Ivanovna worked as a professor for a long time, passing on the secrets of her craft to new generations of iconographers.
The Modern Stage: Creative Maturity
Having completed her academic career, Alevtina Ivanovna has devoted herself entirely to free creativity in recent years. Today, all her time is given to icon painting and the creation of profound original compositions. This period has become a time of the highest concentration of spiritual and creative powers for the master, where the experience accumulated over decades is embodied in unique images, and the strictness of the church canon harmoniously blends with the living breath of personal contemplation.
