Base: We use specially prepared linden wood panels (with oak dowels) or high-quality MDF. We offer MDF as an alternative to wood, as this material is even more resistant to humidity fluctuations, does not warp over time, and perfectly preserves the icon&rsquo;s shape in any climate.
Primer: Natural gesso (a mixture of chalk and animal glue), applied in several layers.
Painting: Traditional egg tempera&mdash;natural mineral pigments ground by hand in an egg emulsion.
Gilding: Genuine gold leaf (23&ndash;24 karat).

You may also leave this decision up to you&mdash;for example, you can receive an unconsecrated icon to take it yourself to a priest you know at your parish, or purchase the work without a consecration service. Simply let us know your preference when placing your order.

We pay special attention to packaging. In addition to multi-layered protective shipping packaging, which ensures the icon arrives safely, the icon itself is packaged very aesthetically. Is it necessary to place the icon in a protective case (a glass-fronted display box)?

Our icons are coated with a durable protective layer (linseed oil or a special varnish), so they do not necessarily need to be placed in a protective case. However, if your home experiences sudden changes in humidity, or if you plan to frequently light candles and oil lamps in front of the icon, a kiot will provide excellent additional protection against soot and dust, helping to preserve the pristine appearance of the gold leaf and paints.
