The Tikhvin Mother of God

The Tikhvin Mother of God is one of the most famous and revered miraculous images in the Orthodox world. This icon belongs to the iconographic type of "Hodegetria" (The Guide). The Most Holy Mother of God majestically points with her right hand to the Christ Child as the true path to salvation. The Savior, in turn, holds a rolled scroll in His hand, symbolizing Divine teaching, and blesses those who pray. The Tikhvin icon has long been considered a special patroness of infants, children, and adolescents. Before this image, people traditionally pray for the health of children, help in their upbringing, a safe pregnancy, and for peace and harmony in the family. This icon will become a spiritual treasure for a home iconostasis and an incredibly touching gift for a birth, christening, or wedding.
