The Mother of God "Hodegetria" (She Who Shows the Way)

"Hodegetria" translates from Greek as "She Who Shows the Way" or "Guide". It is one of the most majestic, ancient, and venerated images in the Christian tradition. In this icon, the Virgin Mary gently points to the Christ Child, symbolically directing believers to Him as the true path and meaning of life. The Child blesses the world with His right hand, while holding a rolled scroll in His left—a symbol of Divine teaching. Praying before the "Hodegetria" icon helps one find the right path in moments of doubt, brings blessings to important endeavors, and offers protection during life's trials and travels.
