Christ in Majesty

The icon "Christ in Majesty" (Saviour in Might) occupies a central place in Orthodox iconography. In it, Jesus Christ is revealed in His divine glory as the Ruler of the Universe and the Awesome Judge of the Second Coming. In prayers to this image, people turn with the following petitions: the Saviour is asked for mercy, purification of the soul, granting of strength for sincere repentance, and deliverance from eternal condemnation at the Last Judgment; Christ is prayed to as the King of Heaven, who is able to protect a person, their family, and their home from visible and invisible enemies, slander, envy, and injustice; the image is resorted to in moments of severe life trials, spiritual crises, sorrows, and illnesses, asking for spiritual and physical strengthening; they pray for peace between nations, for the cessation of strife, as well as for harmony, love, and well-being within the family. This icon reminds us of eternity and the salvation of the soul, which is why praying before it helps a believer maintain the right spiritual path amidst the turmoil of earthly life.
